THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS WESTERN RIDERS ASSOCIATION

Greeting SMWRA members and interested riders young and hold! We hope you are all ready for an exciting, jam-packed show season, with a whole lot of fun and friendship thrown in and we look forward to meeting you if you are interested in giving Western showing a try this season! We have a terrific line-up of shows and clinics this season for our members and our region’s western riders, and if you’ve decided this is the year of your success, we have a whole range of events planned to help you on your way! It alls starts on Oct 24th & 25th at JER in 2009, when we will host a full two day Western Spectacular, A Approved Show - with plenty of youth and beginner classes thrown in. We hope to see you there.

We have also just had news from AQHA that both our AQHA Club Affiliation AND our application to host a Youth Camp QH and a Western Show in the January 2010 school holidays HAVE BOTH BEEN APPROVED!!! THIS IS A WONDERFUL RESULT AND MEANS EXCITING TIMES AHEAD FOR SMWRA. The youth camp will be open to any AQHA or SMWRA members aged 18yrs or under and full details/costings on the camp will be going out next week via our e-mail network and website. We are also hoping to utilise the wonderful clinicians we have booked for our adult riders as well, so a Western Riding clinic with Shane Massingham and a Reining clinic with Warrick Schiller are both on the cards at this stage. More info shortly!

And remember, Bec and I are more than happy to answer any questions or queries you may have during the upcoming season, via e-mail (snowymonaro.qh@bigpond.com or mapleleaf@westnet.com.au )

About the Snowy Mountains Western Riders Association

In early March, 2006, a small group of dedicated western horse enthusiasts joined forces to organize the inaugural JER Western Spectacular Show. An amazing mix of National and State Champions, pleasure riders, reiners, barrel racers, rank beginners and youth riders, came together to show, to learn and to spend time with their horses.

Paints, Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, Morgans, Thoroughbreds, Cross-breds and ponies were all represented. They loped and they jogged, they trailed and they reined, they haltered, hacked and raced round the barrels. And at shows end, with reins looped over drooping horses’ necks and weary legs resting across saddle pommels, the Snowy Mountains Western Riders Association was born…

The goal of the Snowy Mountains Western Riders Association is simple. We want what you want; the time and the opportunity to do whatever you and your horse love to do within a fun, safe and family friendly environment. Based in the heart of the breath-taking NSW Snowy Mountains, at the world class Jindabyne Equestrian Resort, our members are able to show year round in the spectacular JER indoor arena, and enjoy the full range of horse and rider accommodation on offer.

Our unique mix of SMWRA members means every western discipline is catered for at our club shows. For the thrill seekers who like to slide, we offer an extended reining program with NRHA affiliated classes and plenty of ‘have a go’ events for those just starting out. Our Saturday High Point Western Performance Challenge – incorporating point-scores from Trail, Western Pleasure and Reining events – is always sensational, as is our regular ‘Saturday night reining under lights’. Your Western Halter horse can ‘Sizzle on Sunday’ with our feature Maturity and Futurity events, sponsor feature events and plenty of chances to strut their stuff with a full program of breed classes, Amateur classes and showmanship. Our English events and Sunday afternoon barrel racing ensure that everyone is happy at show’s end.

From the top National Competitor through to the youth or beginner rider just starting out, the Snowy Mountains Western Riders Association’s A AQHA, AAA & A PHAA Approved shows cater to all level of competitor and our regular clinic and training days will help you and your horse achieve your equine goals.

So saddle up, come join us….Let’s ride!
