Southern Zone Rodeo finals head back to Jindabyne
It’s been a busy year in the Southern Zone with a total of 19 rodeos on the calendar as competitors battle it out for points towards the end of year titles, culminating in the Zone Finals being held on Easter Sunday at the Jindabyne Equestrian Complex.
Traditionally the Southern Zone season started in September each year, with the Zone finals being held over Easter weekend, now the season starts the 1st weekend after Easter and continues through to the following Easter.
In 2007 a new home was needed for this event after many years of running on the South Coast and Jindabyne took on the challenge. EI in 2008 and rain in 2009 meant that the Southern Zone did not run a finals rodeo, and Jindabyne is once again the home of the 2010 event.
It is still a close race for many of the top awards with 6 rodeos’ still to be run. The All Round Cowgirl title is going to be a race down to the wire with former Southern Zone All Round Cowgirl Michelle Bush, from Yass, holding a 14 point lead from Sydney based cowgirl Jo Farquhar. The All Round Cowboy sees Warren Norton of Goulburn, a Rodeo Protection clown and National All Round champion from 2009; hold a lead of just 6 points from Ty Parkinson of Tamworth, and 10 points from Yass cowboy Clay Bush.
With the title race this close Jindabyne Rodeo is sure to draw many of the top Rodeo competitors as they battle it out to win over $10,000 in prizes. Who will walk away with the coveted buckles?? Come along and check out the action on Sunday 4th April at the Jindabyne Equestrian Centre.
